Patrick Devonas

Patrick Devonas was born in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1965. From an early age, his parents recognized and wholeheartedly supported their son's artistic inclinations. When Patrick was 16 years old, he applied and was accepted to the "Kunstgewerbeschule" (local art school).
In 1986, after several years of independent study, Patrick moved to the United States to study art and graduated form BYU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990. After a brief return to Switzerland, Patrick moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to continue his studies at the Atelier Le Sueur. There, Patrick studied classical drawing and painting with Steven Levin, Annette Le Sueur and Richard Lack.
After graduating from the Atelier in 1994, Patrick, who had a keen interest in teaching, taught drawing and painting at the Minnesota River School of Fine Art. He then received a scholarship to the New York Academy of Art, where the instruction of Randy Melick and Vincent Desiderio influenced his working methods. Patrick received his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1997 and began teaching painting classes at the Academy. He then continued to teach privately out of his studio. Recently, Patrick and Bill Whitaker, also a figure painter, founded the "Carl Bloch Academy" located in Springville, Utah. Patrick Devonas' works are sought by collectors in both Europe and the United States. He has been commissioned to execute paintings for numerous private individuals and is primarily producing symbolists works with religious/spiritual content.
"Patrick has a rich imagination that leads him to create highly ambitious works of great power and beauty. His paintings include large, complex compositions on religious and spiritual themes, strikingly realistic portraits, and still lives in which commonplace objects are rendered so sensuously that they suggest the other-worldly. In all of these compositions, Patrick addresses an admirable range of subjects and themes, yet brings to them a sensuous delight in the earthly and human that is intensified by his deep sense of the mystery of existence. He is fully committed to creating art that, in giving voice to his own spiritual concerns, will resonate with those open to exploring novel approaches to age-old themes. And he as astonishing technical facility. He is an exquisite draftsman and a brilliant colorist." David Davidson PhD, Former Vice President, Academic Affairs, New York Academy of Art
